Why This Blog?
I created this blog to bring a historical approach to analyzing contemporary geopolitical issues. Historians often overlook geopolitics, while political scientists sometimes misuse history. I aim to bridge this gap by using history to analogise the past with the present, provide context, and conduct counterfactual thinking. I strive for ideological rigour, avoiding overt biases and offering balanced perspectives. I aim to counter the trend of punditry in geopolitical analysis by grounding my work in historical facts, data, and case studies.
Why Now?
I chose to start my Substack this time because I’m on a career break and have been increasingly frustrated with the quality of geopolitical analysis over the past few years. Too many analysts rush to create soundbites, pushing the discipline towards punditry. I aim to provide a solid, well-researched analysis that cuts through the noise.
What to Expect
My primary themes will include:
Geopolitics and International Relations: State interactions, international systems, power dynamics, and foreign policy.
Conflict and Security: Causes of war, national security policies, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism.
Government Institutions and Political Systems: Political theories, comparative politics, governance, and public administration.
Geoeconomics and Macroeconomics: Global trade, economic development, financial crises, and regional economic integration.
I will publish shorter-form written pieces multiple times per week and longer, in-depth articles twice a month. Paid subscribers will receive exclusive, report-style content requiring more effort and time.

My Passion for History and Geopolitics
Growing up in a Navy town surrounded by history books sparked my interest in military affairs, defence, and politics. My family's involvement in government further fueled my passion for understanding the foundations and context of historical and geopolitical events. Moving abroad has deepened my interest in the United States’ global role and its relations with other actors.
Goals for This Blog
I aspire for this blog to become a go-to place for geopolitical analysis. I aim to become a major voice in bringing rigorous historical analysis to geopolitics, combined with comparative and data analysis methodologies.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Let’s explore the big questions and uncover the broader contexts together.
